It doesn’t matter where your workspace is from a lap table, to the kitchen table or even your own studio space, you should treat it as sacred and keep it clean. To me a clean workspace is very important. Not only does it allow you to find what you are looking for quickly but overall it’s just find it less stressful not to be surrounded by clutter. image Clutter, it’s a problem we all have and it naturally seems to attract itself to the areas we work. Coke cans, a dish, paper towel from cleaning. The list is long as to what’s unneeded clutter. But that is not all, it can also mean other models and unfinished kits. These are the worst, a distraction and demotivator. Hide the unfinished stuff, or the next project. Instead, surround yourself with finished and complete items, to me this drives me to add the model I am working on to it. image Another thing I did to help keep everything good tidy was go out and purchase some velcro tape and attached several items in specific spots. I did this for several reasons. I always know where it’s at one the desk and it stays out of my way. My airbrush holder and wet-pallet received this treatment. Another reason I did it like that is if I do need to remove them to use somewhere else or clean up, I can. Lastly so I don’t have to worry about either falling off the desk. I attached them on the corners, upper left for the airbrushes and lower right for the wet-pallet. Keeps everything in its places on a non-permanent. image Everything should have a place that you keep it as well. I don’t know what’s more frustrating then needing something and not being able to find it. Keeping your area clean will help you find those needed items even quicker. You can also keep different modeling supplies in boxes with labels identifying what items are within, or if you have the space a pegboard with everything hanging in its own place. I hope you found this helpful and a reason to keep everything tidy.

Now ways to get organized and unclutter your hobby. The biggest issue for a modeler is what type of space you have to work with. Most of these ideas are really only useful for people with dedicated painting areas. Not to sound like your mother but keep things picked up and put a small trashcan in your area for rubbish. Wall mounted shelves are also great to keep things off of your work area. These can typically be purchased for under $20 and for a small investment of wall space can double your work space area, they are also great for mounting lights to. One of my favorite things are wall mountable plastic bins, easy to label and allows you to store small parts like magnets and drill bits easier.
