Don’t throw those old soda boxes out, reuse them for basing material! They are the perfect thickness to use for flagstone on bases…how you ask?! No problem, Models Workshop has you covered in this simple and fast tutorial!

Start by cutting workable pieces; anywhere from half an inch to a quarter of an inch and round the edges. You’ll want about 3-4 little pieces to make it look good.

This is what it should like like for one base. That is a 25MM base for size reference. If you want to work on a larger base, instead the number of “stones”, not their size to keep it uniform.

Next step is to add white glue that is a little watered down. About 50/50 is not too tacky but not to watery.

Spread it on to cover the entire top of the base evenly, this will give adhesion for the cardboard and fine gravel.

Next add the cardboard stones, you can do it anyway you like, but to make it stand out I like to match the edges to look like it was tiled that way. To do that find edges that match the angles and place them in between with about 1 mm or less spacing, I used a sculpting tool to help place them, but you can use anything you have with a point.

Next is the fine grave, it’s the little bits in the bottom of your gravel box. You want it almost like dust, this will help fill the small 1mm gaps that you left between the flagstones.

Sprinkle it on generously, covering the entire base.

Blow away the excess and boom!!

Your models are ready to storm the dungeon!!
