Been a couple weeks since our last Kickass Kickstarter so to make it up to you here is one that is super kickass. Today we bring you RPG Fantasy Miniatures, a line of miniatures being made from the folks of Minx Studios out of Canada. These models are excellent, not crowded with details that can turn a new painter off to trying to paint them, but with enough on the models to represent a challenge to veteran painters. These models are just straight badass looking. So the story of Minx Studios is every gamer or commission artists dream. A group of friends who get together, start a small studio and continue to expand until they are ready to start their very own product line. RPG Fantasy Miniatures is a line of miniatures designed by the gentleman of Minx Studio, and let me tell you, not only am I impressed, but the other folks of Models-Workshop are also loving this Kickstarter too!

From Scott: These fellows do seem to have quite a good set up. The pictures of the sculpts look great, it’s good to see the actual items rather than “sexed up” concept art. I like the Minotaur and the female models are epic without being overly sexualised which is important to me. The poses are quite good without being anything that stands out from the pack. The work looks crisp and detailed, the flaming hammer is a nice touch.

One of the hardest parts about doing these articles at times is explaining what I think the person running it was thinking when they decided to do their project. For the last hours I have been trying to come up with a way to explain their design method, but honestly I think they do the best job of it themselves. This is what Minx Studio has to say about designing the miniatures for this Kickstarter.

Versatile, Paintable and Just Plain Simple!

Designed to fit in with a wider variety of games, universes and roles, our miniatures use general themes present in all fantasy realms.

Having painted armies and competition miniatures for years, we believe the painting experience improves greatly with simpler designs. Miniatures focusing on stronger posing, fabrics and shapes allow the painter to paint more freely and explore more advanced methods more easily.

High-Detail sculptures look great in photos, but the extra detail can add considerably to painting time, and really complicate colour selection.

We want you to feel comfortable building, painting and playing with our products and not just have them sitting on your shelf staring at you, complaining about how crowded its getting, that the orc next to them smells, or that the ogre beat them and stole their treasure, again!

Scale of themodels are in line with other 30mm based games (other companies models used for scale purposes)

Snickernack says: Yay.  Just put my pledge in.  Looks like some pretty awesome models, Clint and I are excited for the Demon Knight, Male Wizard and Female Sorceress especially.  Looking forward to painting them…..sometime in the future.  It’s pretty cool seeing that the concept art is so close to the actual end models.  I haven’t really seen that happen anywhere else, though I hadn’t been looking at any kickstarters until recently.

Now it can be hard to see what the potential a miniature has when its only in resin form so here is a painted version of the minotaur buy the incredibly talented James Wappel. You can find this well done model over at Cool Mini or Not as well! As you can see the models leave a lot open for painters to use, much like an open canvas. But while not being cluttered can be painted up to look incredible!img537e69fe04d0f   Now Minx already has some really nice looking stretch goals set up as well. Now these guys are so cool we have an exclusive reveal for the Dark Knight stretch goal! This will be unlocked once the Kickstarter gets to $22,500 (cdn), which should be happening very soon! image image How awesome is this thing! Can’t wait until it gets unlocked and it is available to pick as a selection for the RPG Fantasy Miniatures Kickstarter.

In closing we at Models Workshop are excited to see this Kickstarter launch, we love the miniatures and the folks at Minx Studio have been great to chat and work with. This is already funded but is an easy no brainer on the to back list! Not only will you get to help a couple guys who started at their local gaming shop over a few games of 40k realize their dreams of starting a company. But you will also save yourself a few bucks per miniature. Now you don’t get a billion miniatures like other Kickstarters but this is more about setting up a quality product then drowning you in miniatures. You also get to select exactly what models you want, and can swap them around for a nominal fee. While this is going to make shipping things out more difficult for the guys of Minx, they don’t mind because that is the level of dedication they have for you all!
